In patients with back pain generally we do two very important tests which include a MRI of the back and a nerve test called an EMG / Nerve Conduction Study. MRI of the back is a detailed picture of the spine which could show what the cause of the back pain is and if the nerves are being compressed. The second test that we do in our office is an EMG Nerve Conduction Test; in this test the nerves are tested to see if they are being damaged and if the patient is at risk of developing leg weakness. This is a very powerful tool which in addition to the MRI helps us pick the proper treatment.
