The diagnosis of migraines is mostly made clinically. The physician's exam and the symptoms of the patient help make the diagnosis. If the patient has the right combination of symptoms and a normal examination then the diagnosis of migraines can be made. However the physician might do other diagnostic testing like and MRI or an EEG, which is a brain wave recording, to exclude other serious illnesses.
