The best treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition of a combination of factors that increase pressure on the median nerve. Susceptible to a number of conditions, it is this nerve that allows feeling and movement to parts of the hand. Having something to do with the median nerves, this syndrome can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers. With that said any form that exerts pressure on the median nerve at the wrist results in this syndrome.

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome:

Primarily, intense numbness, that it wakes one from sleep. Gradually starting with numbness, tingling, frequent burning in the palm, hands and fingers, later it swells. No movement is another symptom. As symptoms aggravate one might feel tingling during the day. Dropped out strength in hands is the main indication further it makes the smallest manual task difficult which includes holding small objects, shivering etc. When it is untreated and chronic, the muscles at the base of the thumb waste away disabling people to tell between hot and cold by touch.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome treatment:

Based on the severity of the condition and how long it has lasted, treatment will be given whether there is any nerve damage or any other severities. When mild symptoms are seen, patients can ease their distress by repeated breaks to rest their hands and applying cold packs to reduce occasional swelling. Incase if these techniques don’t offer relief additional treatments will be provided, based on the severity and it includes wrist splinting, medications and surgery. If mild symptoms are seen in the patient then the aforementioned treatments are used.

In extreme cases, surgical and non-surgical therapies are done again based on the severity of the disease.

• Endoscopic surgery- telescope like device having a tiny camera letting the doctor to see inside the carpal tunnel and perform small cuts to free the nerve.

• Open surgery being the second option, the incision here will be larger; cutting through the ligament to free the nerve

Non-surgical therapy- wrist splinting, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and Corticosteroids are other therapies.
